AMMC Adds Lactation Consultant to Staff
January 12, 2011
Arkansas Methodist Medical Center’s Tritia McGrew, RN, IBCLC, has recently been certified as a lactation consultant. An International Board Certified Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) is a healthcare professional who specializes in the clinical management of breastfeeding. IBCLCs are certified by the International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners, Inc. (www.iblce.org) under the direction of the U.S. National Commission of Certifying Agencies.
The IBCLE mission is to develop the internationally recognized certification standard and award credentials to individuals who demonstrate competence in providing breastfeeding assistance to mothers and children worldwide. McGrew will educate new and expectant mothers on the importance of breastfeeding.
According to Debbie Brehmer, LPN, AMMC Director of Education, "We are pleased to be offering this service to mothers and Tritia’s knowledge will allow women to ask questions and get answers about breastfeeding."
McGrew started at AMMC in 2001 as PCT in Women’s Services (OB). Once she completed her education at Mississippi County Community College, what is now Arkansas Northeastern College, she continued working in Women’s Service but as an RN.
