AMMC President/CEO Announces Retirement

Ron Rooney, longtime president/CEO of Arkansas Methodist Medical Center (AMMC), announced today that he is retiring effective December 31, 2011. Mr. Rooney has devoted more than half of his 42-year career in healthcare administration to AMMC.
Under Rooney’s leadership, AMMC has experienced tremendous growth that has enabled it to evolve from a sole hospital into a complete healthcare system, which includes the medical center, physician practices, a retirement community and foundation among other entities. He has instilled a culture of integrity, compassion and quality during his 23-year tenure at AMMC.
Mr. Rooney has served in executive leadership positions in healthcare organizations throughout New York, Massachusetts, South Carolina, Oklahoma, Louisiana and Arkansas. He earned his undergraduate degree from Syracuse University in Syracuse, NY and a masters degree in business administration from The George W. Washington University in Washington, D.C. Rooney has an extensive history of service to community and civic organizations as well to the Arkansas Hospital Association and Voluntary Hospital Association of America (VHA) where he has served as chairman of both organizations.
Rooney, 67, will join his wife, Lois, who retired last year following a career in education. The couple plans to spend a large portion of time visiting their four children and their families who live in Arkansas, Missouri and Wisconsin.
The AMMC Board of Directors has named Barry Davis, who currently serves as vice president of operations, as interim president/CEO.
