Vassar Named Finalist for 2012 Nursing Compassion Award
June 26, 2012
Arkansas Methodist Medical Center Chief Nursing Officer Debra Vassar, RN, BSN, was recently named one of the top finalists for the 6th Annual Nursing Compassion Award sponsored by the Arkansas State Board of Nursing.
Vassar has been employed as a registered nurse at AMMC since 1980. In 1987, the Chief Executive Officer requested she be the Interim Director of Nursing until a search could be completed. Twenty-five years later, Vassar continues to serve Arkansas Methodist as the Chief Nursing Officer.
According to Assistant Chief Nursing Officer Lana Williams, RN, "Mrs. Vassar is an extraordinary person and epitomizes the compassionate nurse. She is devoted to the needs of the hospital, each nurse at our facility as well as our community. She is the kind of leader people desire to follow." Williams added, "The RN retention rate for AMMC was 94% in 2011 which compares to national averages ranging from 90-70%. High RN retention rates are associated with high quality healthcare."
Vassar was one of 56 nominees and one of the top finalists.
