AMMC Announces Termination of Humana Medicare Advantage Contract

Home | News | AMMC Announces Termination of Humana Medicare Advantage Contract

Arkansas Methodist Medical Center (AMMC) will no longer be in network with Humana Medicare Advantage plans effective December 1, 2023. AMMC values our patients, community partners and policy holders; this decision comes after careful consideration of the relationship and its financial implications for our organization.

The termination of our contract with Humana Medicare Advantage is due to excessive payment denials for necessary care; delays in approvals for treatment; and burdensome administrative requirements; resulting in significant uncompensated patient care. As a responsible healthcare provider, AMMC must ensure the sustainability of our services and maintain our commitment to deliver exceptional patient care to all individuals we serve.

We want to reassure our patients and policyholders that while we will no longer be in network with Humana Medicare Advantage plans, this will not affect Humana commercial insurance plans. We understand the importance of uninterrupted access to quality healthcare, and we encourage policyholders to contact their insurance providers during open enrollment to review alternative options that best suit their individual needs. The Medicare open enrollment period is October 15 – December 7, 2023.

For more information or assistance in determining the appropriate course of action, policyholders can visit Medicare.gov or contact 1-800-MEDICARE (1-800-633-4227). Another resource available for assistance is the Arkansas Seniors Health Insurance Information Program (AR SHIIP), 1-800-224-6330.

"We recognize the challenges we have faced with Medicare Advantage plans, and this decision was made to ensure the long-term viability and sustainability of our healthcare services," stated AMMC Interim CEO Brad Bloemer. "Our commitment to providing exceptional care remains unwavering, and we will continue to work diligently to meet the healthcare needs of our community."

AMMC acknowledges the impact this change may have on our valued patients and policyholders. We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused and remain dedicated to assisting individuals throughout this transition period.
